We are a friendly school of five classes situated in Kinnesswood on the banks of Loch Leven. Our area is the East and South of Loch Leven, but we receive a high number of placing requests, so current pupils come from all over Kinross-shire as well as many from Fife.
If you wish to make a placing request at Portmoak for your child, please contact the Headteacher to discuss your wishes.
Our catchment area comprises the villages of Scotlandwell, Kinnesswood, Glen Lomond and Balgedie and extends to the Fife border at Auchmuir Bridge in one direction and to Mawcarse (near Milnathort) in the other. On the other side of Loch Leven, on the Vane Farm Road, the catchment area ends at West Brackley Farm. You can check that you reside within the Portmoak catchment area here.
In our school there are five full time teachers plus three teachers who cover for non contact time and Principal Teacher relief, a visiting Pupil Support Teacher and PE teacher. We also have several pupil support assistants who provide support for pupils in the classrooms, dining hall and playground. There are two staff in the office, three staff in the kitchen (who cook onsite), two cleaners and a part time facilities assistant.
We pride ourselves on our learning environment, both indoors and out and our curriculum is enhanced by many non-curriculum experiences for the children such as football, cricket, netball and orienteering. We also take part in many competitions and festivals. Primary 7 are being offered a residential experience with the other Kinross Cluster schools at Dalguise Outdoor Centre. Primary 6 go on a residential visit to Ardroy Outdoor Education Centre.
All pupils are involved in decision making in our school. We have responsibility groups every year, which involve every pupil. Examples of these include: Community Committee, Events and Fundraising Committee, The Earth Pilots (Eco), The Rights Respecting School Award Group , The Health Committee, The Pupil Council and the Library Team.
