We use a wide range of methods to communicate with parents. As well as phone, text message and email, we also have a Headteacher’s newsletter monthly, which updates parents on what is going on in school. This contains opportunities for parents to get involved in the life of the school, for example through ‘Meet the Teacher’ open afternoons (Autumn), parent workshops, parents’ evenings (Autumn/Winter and Spring), class and special assemblies and events throughout the year). There are also informal opportunities for parents to come in and say hello, though our termly ‘Parent Coffee and Catch Up’ sessions with the Headteacher and members of the Parent Council, usually just after 9am drop off, days vary, and also through charity events and coffee mornings.
Texts and emails are very handy for all of us, as well as being better for the environment, so we do use them when we can. We do still also send letters home with children, as often permission slips or some reply is required. Parents are also encouraged to make use of the school website www.portmoak.com. Please note that the text message service does not alert us to incoming messages, so unless we ask for a reply to a message, please use email, phone or pop in to see us with a message. We regret that our text system can only store one mobile number per child, so do tell us if you would rather switch ‘main contact’ so that the person most able to respond can get our text alerts. Please ensure this number is always kept up to date. We are happy to add more than one email address to our mailing list, just let us know if you would like this, otherwise we will add the main contact’s one only.
