You may recall that we lost our school secretary, Mrs Greenshields in January of last year.
On Thursday 25th January we had a ceremony to dedicate the memorial bench we have had made in her memory. This was organised by the Portmoak Pupil Council, who worked with Garry McGrouther of GM Welding Services to come up with a design which would be a fitting tribute to Mrs. Greenshields, who was a very big part of the Portmoak family.
The children included our school vision statement, Portmoak Life, as well as geese flying over Loch Leven. The children also chose to include white roses, which were her favourite flowers. We are delighted with the finished result which has been galvanized and coated with a black sparkle finish that should last for 20 years.
We invited some of Mrs. Greenshields’ family and friends to come to the dedication of the bench on the 25th, which would have been her 51st birthday. The service was led by Reverend Morrison and included a poem written by Louis Scott from the Pupil Council. It was a lovely sunny afternoon and we retired to the hall afterwards for tea and coffee and scones baked by our school cook, Mrs. Livitt.
We will now be using the bench as our school ‘Buddy Bench’ – our old wooden buddy bench had definitely seen better days. Those of you who remember Mrs. Greenshields will know that this is a very appropriate way to remember a lady who welcomed everyone into the school with warmth and a smile and who was a friend to everyone.
